Global Warming – Fact or Fiction?

Posted by Saiful in General on 02 28th, 2010

There appears to be quite a bit of debate about the phenomenon known as ‘global warming’. Does it exist or does it not exist?

As in many great debates there appears to be multiple opinions about the issue. A few years ago, Al Gore won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work (film) on global warming. Yet, many scientists have come out to say there is no evidence of global warming. In fact, the prestigious NASA, with its vast array of intellectual capital and high caliber scientists seems to be saying there is no evidence of it.

Then the scandal broke. A flurry of emails were ’stolen’ and made public. The emails seemed to indicate that someone or some group of people is trying very hard to make a real scientific case for global warming. The emails seemed to show that they were overreaching the normal parameters of real science to come to their ‘conclusion’ and convince others too

Some people today are too young to remember, including myself, but it has been said that thirty years ago, we were being told that we were headed for an ice age. Now, suddenly we have been alerted that the polar caps are melting, that sea levels will rise and that there will be resultant disaster – unless we spend a lot of money to fix the problem now.

Those watching the debate say that ‘fixing’ the problem means sending an awful lot of money to third world countries. Meanwhile, some of the bigger industrialized countries talk about curbing their emissions, but do not actually appear to be willing to do so. Seems that those countries are not fully convinced that global warming exists or is a problem. If they were convinced, would they not get busy solving the problem?

There appears to be doubt. For the proponents of the global warming phenomenon, it does appear that providing some very definitive proof would benefit them in getting these ‘hold out’ nations to take action.

I am not taking sides within this article. However, I know that there are many people who are very passionate about their position on global warming. You tell me. Is global warming a real phenomenon or not? Why do you think that it is or is not?

Car Hire Advice

Posted by Saiful in Camping on 02 27th, 2010

Sometimes we always assume that we know everything there is to know about car hire. It is only when things go wrong that people realize how little they know about car hire. This article gives you a few tips to think about when hiring a car.

The size of the car needs to be considered as it affects fuel consumtion and costs. The number of people who will be using the car and for what purpose should also brought into consideration. If it’s going to be two to four people using the car for simple travel purposes then cars in the small range can be considered. They save on fuel and are available at very low rates.

The kind of roads that you will be using, you do not want to rent a car with a low suspension when you are going to be traveling long distances or on rough roads. Another thing is if you can schedule your journey to be mid-week then it’s better than over the weekend or holidays. Different rates apply for the week days and the weekends.

Reading the lease agreement will not take too much of your time, make sure you pay attention to every detail. Each agency has its own set of rules that are different from those of another. The lease agreement is a legal document and if anything goes wrong you cannot say that you did not know.

One thing that should pay particular attention to is the clause regarding who is eligible to drive the vehicle. You can register extra drivers on the agreement but it will be at an extra cost. There are terms and conditions that also apply to traveling with minors.

Some of the local car hire agencies that are recommended include any one of the following: budget car hire cape town south africa budget car hire bloemfontein car rental rondebosch

When renting a car make sure you understand the risk that you carry and the risk that is covered by the car rental company. Having the correct information is better than not thinking you know.

Tips for a Successful Group Camping Trip

Posted by Saiful in Camping on 02 27th, 2010

I do most of my camping these days with North Texas Adventures which is not a hard core camping group. These days even those who appreciate their comforts in life can enjoy camping. If you bring a pump up air mattress with sheets, a comforter, and pillows you’ll forget you’re not in your own bed at home!  Given how large tents are these days even a queen size mattress does not need to take up the whole tent.

If you are at a campsite with electricity, consider bringing a fan to plug in which helps beat the heat in your tent. This comes in handy in the hot Texas heat.  For colder weather camping, bring some sleeping bags for added warmth.

With today’s amenities there is no need to “rough it” on a camping trip.  Keep this in mind when you develop your guest list.Even folks that insist they don’t like to camp may enjoy modern day camping that can have much of the comforts of home.

Some of my happiest camping memories are sitting around the fire at night.  This is a great time to relax and tell stories of your adventures from that day, like the time I ran over a rattlesnake on my mountain bike, and my buddy, to avoid the rattlesnake ran his bike straight into a cactus!  Ouch!  Meanwhile you can roast some marshmallows or enjoy a few beers.

Make sure to bring lots of firewood to burn, as there is nothing worse than having the fire burn out just as the party is getting started.Fires are a lot of fun that most campers will even enjoy them in warm weather.I remember waiting for the sun to go down after a 93 degree day so we could light a fire!
One of our favorite night time activities is a good game of Texas Hold’em poker, this is very popular in our DFW Outdoors Club

This can be great for beginners who sometimes are lucky enough to bring the pot home. This happened with my girlfriend and I was so embarrassed when she won and waved the cash around in the air singing “I am the winner!” at the top of her big lungs.  Fortunately for all of us, her beginner’s luck soon ran out and it was much quieter at the next game.

So make sure to bring some games or items for entertainment that appeal to your group. Some of the other items I bring for fun are a football, bean bag toss game, Frisbee, fishing poles, a bicycle and of course a deck of cards.

Don’t forget a lanten.  You may need it to find your way to the tent after a beginner takes your money at poker! Finally it is important to remember, Don’t mess with Texas!  We take looking after the camp area seriously, what ever state you are in, as we do with our Dallas Fort Worth Hiking Club. Do a good deed and leave the campsite cleaner than you found it.Do a good walk through to make sure we minimize our foot print on our great state parks and camping area’s.  We all will appreciate you doing your part.

Thank you for reading this article and I hope these tips help you have a more successful and fun camping trip!

Finding Cheap travel packages

Posted by Saiful in General on 02 24th, 2010

With a bit of patience and lots of ingenuity, holiday makers can enjoy very cheap travel packages for their favorite destinations around the world. The truth is that too much money gets spent on airline tickets, cruises, hotels, car rentals and lots of other services necessary for a trip; yet, t is possible to make great deals for hotels and get discount airfares. Discounted air tickets are usually available with all sorts of partner businesses that sell for airlines. The range of rebates further extends to cars and hotels.

EBay can help you with some very price-rewarding travel auctions. Bid on cheap travel packages, hotel deals and vacation rentals. All you need to do is to create an account by signing in. Afterwards, you just need to monitor the travel auction page in order to get the bids that interest you most. The higher bidders win the cheap travel packages when the auction closes.

Cheap travel packages have also become available for special consumer groups such as the the military, the elderly, or employees with lower wages that thus benefit from bonuses and discounts. If you don’t belong to any of these categories, the best idea is to shop around and ask for details and offers at several travel agencies. You should know that cheap travel packages are usually available off season. Moreover, there is a major price increase around holidays, to drop a month afterwards.

Moreover, all sorts of other factors influence the availability of cheap travel packages. Take for instance, Hawaii. A surfer will plan the vacation to this part of the world depending on how the swell is at different times of the year. The best thing one can do under the circumstances is to buy cheap travel packages at least six months in advance. Discounts usually come with long-term reservations, while late buyers will have a less rich or advantageous offer to choose from.

Airlines and travel agencies sell in the most advantageous of conditions. Special offers can be enjoyed monthly, weekly or per season according to the package. Plus, discounts also come when purchasing for a larger family or a group of people. Sometimes paying for a ticket that covers both airfares and accommodation is the best deal you can make in terms of cheap travel packages.
